Re:topics
...Poor Grace, despite her relative youth, it would appear that the years of overindulging in wine, men and song has finally caught up to her. The terrified look upon the face of the elderly gentleman who was merely minding his business playing the slot machine, never mind the near coronary that passed thru his body as Grace attempted to bump and grind this poor senior citizen sent shivers down the spine of this observer. Now as I am aware, the definition of stagger, would include walking with a distinct 60 degree lean one way or the other, a syncopated, hesitant stepping pattern and certainly the bouncing off of the numerous poker machines on the way toward the elevators while chanting loudly with Wally, "Chofu Sucks!!!" was a dead giveaway. Monroe walk my eye.

Thank you to everyone involved with making our reunion happen. You did a wonderful job and I'm sure it took enormous energy and effort. Many Kudos to you!
To everyone who attended, thank you for transporting me back in time and allowing me to spend an incredible weekend with old friends and familiar faces. I think we all look @#%$! good for the miles we have on us!
My special thanks to Lasorda, Nowicki and Lorrie for giving me an entire day of doing what I love most, laughing. To quote a dear friend "life doesn't get any better than that".
Patti Nowicki- we missed you dearly at the last reunion and it was a special treat to see you at this one. You have a grace and lightness about you that I could wallow in for hours, I'm sorry that my time with you was so brief. I had a wonderful time dancing with your daughters- they are too adorable!
Libby- thank you for being our social guru (again), you are a breath of fresh air (or should I say "hit") and just so @#%$! much fun!
Spicer- you light up the room
Wally- you go boy
Jerry- my god, it was great to see your smiling face again
Lasorda- "people person" that you are, you helped me to form many new relationships- thank you!
To all the old familiar faces- it was great. I love you all!
**note*** Ilearned, over the weekend, that Lasorda is not only a gifted cardiologist but an expert at high school projects as well. He would be happy to volunteer his time if any of your children need anything built out of sugar cubes. What a guy!

Hi Ya'll!!! The reunion was GREAT! Thanks to All that were involved in the hard work of making it happen. It was so -xxxx- no words to even begin to express. I loved seeing so many that I've not seen at the other reunions--plus those that I had already seen. It was wonderful to meet the ones I did not know--the Trua's,Craig Snyder, Dave la Soda, of course I can't forget Merrill--I owe you :)--and many more. I only wished I'd have had more time to talk(yes I know-MORE talk, talk, talk)to others. The problem is knowing I'd never remember everything said--much less --Who said what--it's an age thing ya know! I can't wait to get the book to help me. I'll try to bring my own interpertor-next time...lol! Going home is the worst part---let down--when you have to face up to your REAL age and not being able to pretend we were back in high school! Can't wait until next one. All of you are "family" and always will be--no matter how well we knew each other! Go Warriors. love to all.....

I did not think my last message in this guestbook was innappropriate in any way. I do not need rage-mail sent to me. esp. those that say, "I don't know what your problem is, but you need to lighten up." Surely, such fellow-alumni? can find something better to do with their time like change the channel!

OH MY GOODNESS!! My butt is killing me!
I think parts of my body are still floating around the Monte Carlo. As soon as the adrenalin wore off the pain started. Where the hell is that cane? It's a good thing, though. I'll take that kind of pain any day.
How about all of the first time attendees? The looks on their faces when reconnecting with their former classmates and friends after almost thirty years was worth the price of admission. Made my whole trip worthwhile.
Libby: Disco is not dead. I saw you shaking your groove thang!
Pink: I can't believe you're alive!!
Grace: What was with those funny looks? Do you know something I don't? :-)
Jerry and Robbie: Only thing missing were the Cedrics.
Ray: Ape face.
Bippy: TUB
Steph: You can breathe now.
Becky: Ditto
Nancy: Thank you
George: Stop hiding behind Merrill.
Doug: Where did you leave your unit?
Marsha, Diane, Irene, & Nadine: Too cute.
To the Reunion Committee: Another most excellent job. Can't wait til the next one, whether it be in Vegas again, New Orleans (many people were talking about that venue already), or Japan. Do you think they are ready? They may still be looking for a few of us. Is there a statute of limitations?
Cheers to all!
Wally
PS: to the challenge issued by the class of 1960, I accept. We, the class of '73 will look to double our numbers by the next reunion. I invite the rest of the classes to do the same. It's going to be one helluva show next time! Later.

What a gathering!! I will miss a few kudos but as many of you know, my memory is not what ..... heck it never was.
Amy - Thanks for a trip back further than I could ever have imagined. I only wish I had half the memories you held. Some came back as you spoke and and I love you for that.
Jerry - My long lost brother! What excitment to see you looking so well.
Doug and Donna - I had to mention you both at the same time. It seems so natural and the way you two are still able to sit and talk is wonderful.
Kay and Kevin - If there was ever a match made in heaven you two were it. Thanks for the time we spent walking the strip.
Patty - The brief moments we were able to share were something I have looked forward to for a long time. Puppy love!
Stephanie - If only I knew then what I know now. Despite that our discussion were heart warming.
There are so many others Wally, Bippy, George, John R, JP of SD, Libby, Karl (keep that hand waving), Chuck and Debbie, Cyd and of couse Marty. The list goes on .......
Thank you all. I think I will remember this time much better than the brain damage years.
Love and Peace to All Y'all
(I can translate the southern dialect of the Suttons. All Y'all is the plural of Y'all. Go ask Momma in the pickup truck over by the train)

Our Yamato Reunion, 2002, was bigger and better than ever and a huge success, without a doubt. I don’t know the exact number of people who attended, but it reached somewhere close to 300. On Friday, the welcome/registration room was busy all day long as people flew in and rushed to be counted. People were even arriving on Saturday night right in the mist of the dinner/dance. The number of people and the attendance was incredible. Here are just a few of the states Yamatoites flew in from: AZ,CA,CO,FL,GA,JAPAN,MD,ME,MI,NC,NM,NV,NY,OH,OK,SC,TX,UT,VA,WA. If your state is not listed, please let me know so you can be counted.
Our first celebration, Friday night, was a site to behold. The excitement was high and no one could sit for very long. As people walked through the door, their friends would rush up to them and the memories of long ago would flood into their conversations. Everyone had a big, wide smile, on his or her face, and they felt like they were in a dream.
The Saturday night dinner/dance was out of this world. We filled two ballrooms and the dance floor was packed. Let me tell you Yamatoites know how to party! I heard that the party next door to us, wanted to join our party instead of their own! :-) I am still in the recovery stage of this outstanding weekend. My body aches all over from dancing, I am tired and sleepy, and I am filled with deep emotion from the experience of a lifetime.
I have so much inside of me that I want to put in black & white. I hope others will also share their experience with all of us. There is not one Yamatoite who is not worth mentioning, because each and everyone of us is what makes Yamato High School the greatest school to ever exist in a far away place called, Japan. I see many have already signed our guest book as they all begin to arrive home. George Yanase, Class of 1975, I love your account of the reunion, and I look forward to your next entry. The photos by Rodd Buckle Photography are now ready to view at www.roddbuckle.photoreflect.com. Please keep in mind that the camera adds ten pounds! :-) An enormous amount of pictures were taken of this evening so keep watching the postings. We ran out of programs for the evening before the celebrations even started, so if you would like one mailed to you let me know.
I will close for now, so I can get some more sleep. I am so sore that I dread the walk from my studio to the bedroom :-)

Thank you, thank you to all those who made the Yamato Reunion such a great get-together for all of us! I had a wonderful time, and the 3 days went by so fast, I wanted to stick around for a couple of extra days!
Also, I wanted to give you the REAL story on the fiction George Yanase decided to tell... He had a few details mixed up, so I wanted to clear that up... (see George's message dated 7/16/2001 at 3:59pm)
Grace Gale DID NOT try to drag an irate old guy with a walker from his dollar progressive jackpot machine! That story is all wrong! She merely tried to get all the bouncers to dance with her to "Kung Fu Fighting", not "Boogie Fever"... I don't know how he could have gotten these details wrong...
Also, he wrote in the same message regarding Wally that he and I "staggered off to our rooms", I NEVER STAGGER!!! I merely Monroe Walk everywhere...
Boy, I feel so much better already. Truth always is better than fiction!
Thanks again to the reunion committee and all those others who volunteered their precious time to make it all work.
To all who were there, I miss you guys already. To all who weren't... well what can I say... you missed a great time!

13. Cathy Yasuda, who looked like she just stepped out of the 73 Yearbook.
14. Grace Gale's relentless effort to dance with every human male within the vicinity of the Pub dance floor and the surrounding casino. This went on until 5:30 in the morning and ended only when she tried to drag an irate old guy with a walker from his dollar progressive jackpot slot machine and get him to dance to "Boogie Fever". Security was called.
15. Wally Maroney's relentless effort to dance with every human female within the vicinity of the Pub dance floor and the surrounding casino. This went on until 5:30 in the morning and ended only when he tried to drag some women from the Stuttgard Germany High School alumni association onto the dance floor, who were on their way to the Monte Carlo Buffet line. This angered the husbands of the women, who didn't want to lose their place in line for the buffet. Security was not needed as Wally and Grace finally staggered off to their rooms.
16. Mike Trua, or "How to look like a million bucks all of the time, at any time of the day, even when dressing down". Man, you look good.

20. Mike Tanaka, in the jumbo economy size now. Great to see you again.

Got home from the reunion late last night. Had a blast. Saw many people I hadn't seen in a long time and some I didn't expect to, like Pat Rose and Don Trent. Didn't get to say hi to everyone I wanted either, but with everything going on and so many people it would have taken a week. Hope everyone made it home safe and sound. 3. Merrill Nunally, starring in, "The Man Who Knows Too Much About Everyone and Everything That Ever Happened at Yamato and Tachikawa Air Bases, Japan."
4. The Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino Buffet Line Incident, Featuring The Infamous Merrill Nunally.
5. The Ice Bucket Wars at the Monte Carlo Casino Pool, aka, Chris Pinkava's and Jo Anne Van Pembroke's Sheer Heart Attacks.
6. Wally Maroney's mastery of the classic dance moves, The Monkey, The Funky Chicken, The Twist and The Bump! I remain speechless, this observer was amazed.
7. Linda Sims, the woman who has apparently only recently been defrosted and brought back to life, not one day older since entering a deep freeze chamber in 1973.
8. Pat and Karen's brush with the law at the Filthy McNasty All Male Dance Revue. Seems that they were caught trying to remove dollar bills from the dancers thongs instead of inserting them. Oh, correction, it wasn't dollar bills they were trying to remove. Naughty, naughty.
9. Las Vegas authorities reported that a very large, rotund and loud black man named Merrill, not his real name, wearing an overly tight, leopard spotted thong, was placed into custody after receiving complaints from two middle-aged women who were attending a military brats high school reunion. Pat, not her real name, said that after placing money in his thong, he then refused to "Back that a** up". Karen, not her real name, also stated that despite placing several twentys in his thong, he refused to "Shake his Groove Thang". Both women were then referred to a psychiatric specialist.
10. Wally's desire for sustenance, "The search for Ramen 2001."
11. *note. Experienced translater needed for next reunion for the Suttons. Must be fluent in Alabama dialect.

I got this from a friend. I hope it doesn't scare anyone into not going to the reunion. Read and have a good laugh. I had prepared for it like any intelligent woman would. I went on a starvation diet the day before, knowing that all the extra weight would just melt off in 24-hours, leaving me with my sleek, trim, hig-school-girl body. The last many years of careful cellulite collection would just be gone with a snap of a finger. I knew if I didn't eat a morsel on Friday, that I could probably fit into my senior formal on Saturday. Trotting up to the attic, I pulled the gown out of the garment bag, carried it lovingly downstairs, ran my had over the fabric and hung it on the door. I stripped naked, looked in the mirror, sighed, and thought, "Well, okay, maybe if I shift it all to the back.." bodies never have pockets where you need them. Bravely, I took the gown off the hanger, unzipped the shimmering dress and stepped gingerly into it. I struggled, twisted, turned and pulled and I got the formal all the way up--to my knees--before the zipper gave out. I was disappointed. I wanted to wear that dress with those silver platform sandals again and dance the night away. Okay, one setback was now going to spoil my mood for this affair. No way! Rolling the dress into a ball and tossing it into the corner, I turned to "Plan B". The black velvet caftan. I gathered up all the goodies that I had purchased at the drug store; the scented shower gel, the body building, and highlighting shampoo & conditioner, and the split-end killer and shine enhancer. Soon my hair would look like that girl's in the Pantene ads. Then the makeup- the under eye "ain't no lines here" firming cream, the all-day, face-lifting, gravity fighting moisturizer with wrinkle filler spackle; the all day "kiss me til my lips bleed and see if this gloss will come off" lipstick, the bronzing face powder for that special glow. But first, the roll-on facial hair remover. I could feel the wrinkles shuddering in fear. OK-time to get ready...I jumped into the steaming shower, soaped, lathered, rinsed, shaved, tweezed, buffed, scrubbed and scoured my body to a tingling pink. I plastered my freshly scrubbed face with the anti-wrinkle gravity-fighting, "your face will look like a baby's butt" face cream. I set my hair on the hot rollers. I felt wonderful. Ready to take on the world, or in this instance, my underwear. With the towel firmly wrapped around my glistening body, I pulled out the black, lace, tummy-tucking, cellulite pushing, ham hock rounding girdle and the matching "lifting those bosoms like they're filled with helium" bra. I greased my body with the scented body lotion and began the plunge. I pulled, stretched, tugged, hiked, folded, tucked, twisted, shimmied, hopped, pushed, wiggled, snapped, shook, caterpillar crawled and kicked. Sweat poured off my forehead, but I was done. and it didn't look bad. So I rested. A well deserved rest, too. The girdle was on my body. Bounce a quarter off my behind? It was tighter than a trampoline. Can you say "Rubber baby buggy bumper butt?" Okay, so I had to take baby steps and walk sideways, and I couldn't move from my butt cheeks to my knees. But I was firm! OH NO--I had to go to the bathroom! And there wasn't a snap crotch. From now on, undies gotta have a snap crotch. I was ready to rip it open and restitch the crotch with Velcro, but the pain factor from past experiments was still fresh in my mind. I quickly sidestepped to the bathroom. An hour later I had answered nature's call and repeated the struggle into the girdle. I was ready for the bra. I remembered what the saleslady said to do. I could see her glossed lips mouthing, "Do not fasten the bra in the front and twist it around. Put the bra on the way it should be worn - straps over the shoulders. Then bend over and gently place both breasts inside the cups." Easy if you have four hands. But with confidence, I put my arms into the holsters, bent over and pulled the bra down--but the boobs weren't cooperating. I'd no sooner tuck one in a cup, and while placing the other, the first would slip out. I needed a strategy. I bounced up and down a few times, tried to dribble them in with short bunny hops, but that didn't work. So, while bent over, I began rocking back and forth on my heels and toes and I set 'em to swinging. Finally, on the fourth swing, pause, and lift, I captured the gliding glands. Quickly fastening the back of the bra, I stood up for examination. Back straight, slightly arched, I turned and faced the mirror, turning front and then sideways. I smiled. Yes, Houston, we have lift up! My breasts were high, firm and there was cleavage! I was happy until I tried to look down. I had a chinrest! And I couldn't see my feet. I still had to put on my pantyhose and shoes. Why did I buy heels with buckles? And then I had to pee again! I decided to put on my sweats, go fix myself a drink, and skip the reunion.

Hey Fellow Warriors - GO WARRIORS! For those of you who are searching for a '70 Classmate, I found one. I work for the Air Force at Randolph AFB TX, HQ Air Education and Training Command, and attended a farewell dinner for our two-star who is transferring to another base. I was seated next to one of the branch chiefs in the division where I work and casually mentioned going to my high school reunion at Las Vegas. I did explain that I didn't attend high school there but attended at Yamato High (GO WARRIORS!) and the location was voted by the alumni to host a reunion. Regardless, anyone from the Class of 70 searching for a JV Football Player by the name of Reginald Jenkins may soon have a link to him. His brother is supposed to pass all of this information to him. I thought it was really funny to take my yearbook in to work and show a picture of Reginald and everyone wanted to see mine! Ha! It must have been really bad because I "inked" out my picture from recognition! LOL CUL8R at the Monte Carlo Hotel! KUDOS, PROPS (and whatever good words are used by the younger generation) to Loren for this wonderful website! TTFN Cathi

Comments: As of last night, the attendee list has reached 225, and still growing. The hotel has already received dinner money for 175 of us! Paulette-Peacher Lathan, will be taking money at the welcome/registration room, second floor, room #1 on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. So, if you haven’t received verification of your money paid, you are registering late because you cannot bear to miss this event, then this can all be done on Friday. If you have already paid your money then consider yourself in and just get to the party!
Another list of distinguished guests arriving from around the world are: Mike Sakamoto ’72, Karen Dowds ’73, Susan-Jackson Hulse ’66, and husband, Ron. Janet Jackson ’70, and Eddie Koga ’74.
Each room at the Monte Carlo is equipped with an iron and ironing board, which I know I will use. Safety deposit boxes are available at the registration desk (free of charge), where you can put your priceless jewels and great big winnings. Ha!
We are leaving today for Vegas, spend the night somewhere and pull into, “The City That Never Sleeps,” on Thursday. The roof of our Van is loaded with decorating stuff, and we will look like the, “Beverly Hillbillies,” as we travel down the highway. “The Lady of Leisure,” will be chauffeured by the well-known, David Lowell Beattie, as, she stretches out on the double bed in the van, snaps in a CD with "Oldies But Goodies" music, and catches up on the sleep she missed getting ready to attend her Yamato High School Reunion!

Hello, Warriors, I just finished making my share of the cranes for the reunion!! So, some of them look like they have osteoporosis,MS, or any number of debilitating deformities, I at least did my part, that I volunteered for I might add. This of course will be my last time volunteering for (almost) anything!!!!!!! I can still think of a few things I might volunteer for. The art of origami is something I have found a new respect for. Although, if I ever run into the sob that came up with,"a few SIMPLE folds, and you have a crane" I will shoot him. After you get through with the first 100 or 150, yes they are simple. When you see me at the reunion, remember, that a month ago I had a full head of hair, and I was not gray. Also I didn't drink, and I could hold an intelligent conversation, with anyone. Today, I'm bald, gray and I have a tendacy to babble, and , oh yea I drink like a fish, as long as the water has booze in it. No thanx, are necessary. I was happy to do it for my fellow WARRIORS!!! Just look at all the lovely cranes hanging above your heads and marvel at the sheer beauty of them. If I should hear a derogatory comment by anyone, I should make you aware that after I finished making the cranes, I went directly to the local gun shop and purchased a 357 magnum!!! See you all in two days!!! L8R Jim

My name is Mike and I am Marliss Hazlett's son. My mother asked me to write this. Last week my mother went to Cabo San Lucus with her brother. On the second day of the trip she had a very bad accident. She is now back home with us and has had surgery to repair her shattered arm and hand. She says to tell everyone not to ever have to go to a mexican hospital! She is not going to be able to make the class reunion. She is very upset to be missing it. She asked me to write this for her. Announcing another “elite” couple who will be attending the prestigious “Party of the Year” at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas! Introducing, Kevin & Kay Griggs, Class of l972. These two met in Japan, I believe at Yamato, and have been enjoyed 25 years of wedded bliss!
And....now may I introduce, Mike Hill, Class of l966, and his wife, Carol. This is Mike’s first reunion and he is very excited, I could hear it in his voice!
My brother, Richard/Anthony, Class of l964, flew into Vegas this morning and just moments ago called to tell me all about it. He said the weather today was comfortable and the Monte Carlo is very COOL! The Monte Carlo is gorgeous and room #5, second floor where the big event is taking place is nothing but outstanding. Yes, this hotel is elegantly decorated with high recessed ceilings, chandeliers, marble floors, pillars, and everything from the deluxe rooms to the pool area, which is surrounded by palm trees, presents an atmosphere to die for. This is my kind of place! :-)

Great news! Ken Swensen, Class of l967, is flying in from Japan for our reunion. Gidget Whitesell-Lambert, Polly Price-Figeroa and Maura Benton-Bishop are also attending.
My brother, Richard/Anthony, flew out this morning after bringing me his decorating projects to take with us. Now my house is filled with wall-to-wall reunion stuff and seven pieces of luggage. This is why I was amazed when my husband said; “You will only need to take one large piece of luggage, and one piece for your make-up!” Well, at least, he knows how important my make-up is! I am starting to dread Wednesday when we will be leaving, because all of the signs of an argument are starting to show! I keep telling myself, “Whatever you do don’t get him mad!” :-)

If you attended Yamato, no matter how briefly, you are part of a bond that will remain with you your entire life. I look forward to seeing everyone. Two more Yamtoites coming to the Grand Reunion! Rick Cooper, Class of 1971 and Irene Maki-Tamura, Class of l973. If you have paid your money for the reunion, and you haven’t heard if it has been received, just get to the reunion………you are in!
Cheryl Skipton-Runyon, Class of l964, and I talk every day on MSN messenger, and she always makes me laugh like crazy. Our conversation is filled with ONLY reunion talk, as we both get more excited with each passing day. We both had our Friday night outfits bought and ready to go, but when we modeled them for our husbands, they did not respond the way we would have liked them to! We both started to question our “good taste”, so Cheryl got busy calling a store to find replacement, and I am carrying a back up to replace my original decision. I laughed so hard when Cheryl said, “I found something and the store I called will mail it to me, but I got so excited that I forgot to ask the price!” In this particular store, the price could be out-of-sight, and the thought of this made me laugh even harder. Yes…..Cheryl and Vonnie will get to their Yamato High School Reunion…..no matter what the cost! Ha. I told Cheryl, “I don’t know why I am listening to my husband, because he is clueless when it comes to fashion!” :-)

Do you remember, Susan Myers-Miller, Class of 1966? She thought that she was not going to be able to make the reunion, but suddenly her work schedule changed, so she and her husband, Bob, are heading to Vegas! Susan is one of the few students that attended all four years of high school at Yamato.
Boy, you poor souls who couldn’t make the reunion this time, you are going to really miss a fantastic event! Class pictures, the night of the dinner/dance will be taken by, Ron Furukawa, Class of l967. This is all he will do, because we don’t want him working the whole evening; we want him to have time to dance and visit with his friends. We have also hired, Rodd Buckle Photography, from Las Vegas to cover our reunion. He will be taking candid shots at the dinner/dance. Rodd has a website where the photos of our event will be displayed and offered for purchase. So if you want some pictures with your friends, let him know. He does a wonderful job, and thanks to Libby Blackstead, Class of 1972, we were given the opportunity to hire him. Thank you, Libby. Here is the address: roddbucke.photoreflect.com">Email Me!!!
My sister, Jeannie, has helped me with many of the decorating projects, so my brother-in-law, T.J., is forced to listen to my sister, my brother and I discuss every single reunion detail in length as he is surrounded by Yamato reunion projects. This is what led him to ask me, “Is the Emperor of Japan attending this reunion?” I looked at him with a wide smile and said, “I don’t think he is important enough! ~:)

Wow, our attendee list is growing! I was very happy to see Skip Barnes, Class of 1961, listed. Boy, could he to do the “Cha Cha” at the Green Park teen club! I wonder if he still remembers how? Ha! Ha!
We have two teachers attending, Mr. Stanley Arlton (1959-1961), and Mr. Wayne Martin (1959-1961). There is also a very strong possibility that Valerie Hazlett, School Nurse (1969-1972) will be in attendence. Also attending are: David Strauser ’74, Terry Springfield-Sutton ’73, and Tom Spalding ’63.
My husband, Dave, and I were invited to a 4th of July home party and it was so....hot, that I just wore my bathing suit with a coverlet. No....I do not look good in a suit anymore, but I was too hot to care! I got into the water and stayed there till the food was ready. Other than going to the hot tubs in Tahoe, with my Uncle Gene, I haven’t been swimming in years, and it felt like the old days at the Green Park swimming pool where I hung out on a daily basis. I also brought some of our reunion projects to the party to bore the guests with. :-) Met a gal who lived in Japan and also discovered that her father worked with my husband for many years. Such a small world we live in!
I was in the pool talking with a couple of gals, when this young (early 20’s) boy said to me, “Hey, Vonnie, why don’t you leave your husband home and take me to Vegas with you?” I looked toward him and answered, “Oh....no, I need a MAN by my side, and you....are just a mere boy!” He didn’t have an answer for that. Ha! Ha! Later on, my son, Edward, age 31, and my grandson were playing in the pool and I marveled at how mature and handsome my son looked. At that very moment, I was filled with emotion as I thought, “My beautiful, baby boy, has become a man!”

LOOK WHO IS ATTENDING THE REUNION! Penny Skordas-Haskins’62, Chris Bradley’71, Nadine Kaizawa-Nakano, Dave Yamashita ’73, Chris Bradley ’71, and Dale Walden, 71.
I was riding my bicycle around my neighborhood park one COOL morning wearing my Yamato High School t-shirt, which was purchased at our last reunion. This particular morning, one of the regulars doing his morning walk, noticed my t-shirt and asked me about it. I am always happy to be given another chance to talk about my Yamato. :-) At this point we discovered that we were only a year apart in age and I was shocked, because I thought I was at least 10 years younger than he. I guess that only goes to prove that we are young on the inside and old on the outside! Ha!
On that same morning, the sprinklers were running and as I rode around the corner, I misjudged one of the sprinklers, and found myself covered with water. This same fellow saw it happen, and he started to laugh. I said, “Come on, let the water hit you, cut loose, have some fun, it feels great!” He started nodding his head NO and avoided the sprinkler. As I rode by him again I said, “Robert Redford did it in, Barefoot in the Park!” He laughed. Not only do I love Robert Redford (we are the same age), but I also love this old movie he starred in with Jane Fonda. It reminds me so much of my husband, Dave, and I when we were first married. Their personalities and early marriage fights (in the movie) resemble our own when we were so……….young. In the movie, Robert Redford finally lets himself go and he walks barefoot in the park. When I attended our last reunion that is exactly how I felt. I felt like I was “Walking Barefoot in the Park!”

ANNOUNCEMENT: Our head coordinator, Paulette, is out-of-town until Thursday, but when she returns, she will send me an update on whose money has been received for the dinner/dance. If I have e-mail addresses, I will try to let each of you know, otherwise feel free to contact me and I will verify for you that your money has been received. You are also welcome to call me at 925-757-5048, and I will make every effort to get your questions answered.
For the next reunion, we will try to have issues like this all worked by sending receipts to everyone. There is a lot of work involved in planning a reunion, so the more volunteers we have to help, the better service we will receive. As our alumni list begins to grow, it is too much work to put on just a few people, so I hope more of you will give me your name at the reunion as a future volunteer, which will allow us to run things smoother in the future. In the meantime, just relax, and get to the reunion. If you paid your money, you are covered and on the dinner list. Paulette's address has changed, because of circumstances beyond her control, but all mail has been forwarded to her current address which is: Paulette (Peacher) Lathan '61, P.O. Box 7799, Reno, NV 89510. The hotel-catering department hasn’t even finalized the head count for the evening, and in their words, “We still have time!” The hotel also allows for a 30% overage, so if there are any mistakes on the head count this will make up for it. So don't worry you will be counted!

I must take a moment to brag about the project my brother, Richard/Anthony, Class of l964, has completed for the reunion. He called me to his house yesterday to check it out, and I was so impressed with what he had accomplished, that I screamed with delight. No......you have to wait for the reunion to see what I mean, but I promise you that you will be glad you attended this reunion! All of our decorating committee volunteers have worked many long hours on their projects and I can hardly wait for all of you to see the results. They have been a pleasure to work with and have left me (and my brother) with the desire to stay involved in our future reunions. If you want to join us next time around, let me know and I will take your name at the reunion. Gosh! The reunion is really getting close now! I still have tons to do, but have no fear……… I WILL be ready!
I just wanted to make a couple of announcements for all of you. On Friday, July 13th, there will be a welcome/registration room open at the Monte Carlo from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. (That’s right...Friday the 13th!) Check with the front desk for the room number. This will be a gathering place for everyone to get registration packets, raffle tickets, view displays, etc. Also on this same day, from 10:00 A.M. till noon, there will be a representative from Josten’s Rings available to any of us who would like to purchase a Yamato High School ring. So if you lost yours, this is your chance. For those of you who are flying into Vegas, there are shuttle buses available to you outside of the airport waiting to take you to the Vegas strip for $4.00 per person.
My family and friends will be very happy when my reunion is over! Here is an example of what I am subjected to: From the mouth of my husband, Dave, “Vonnie, you are taking this reunion thing too far!” From my son, Edward, “Mom, I don’t want to talk about Yamato!” From my daughter, Bridget, “Mom, you need to take a day off from Yamato!” From my computer friend, Joe Phillips, “I will be glad when this reunion is over!” I would like to point out that I have given each one of these characters my full attention many times when they needed a listening ear, and it amazes me how soon they all forget! I am not really mad at them, because I know they miss my marvelous attention, and I believe they are just jealous of, “My Yamato!” Ha! Ha!

Okay, the deadline is tomorrow for our Dinner/Dance money! May I please remind you that the attendee list is not a true count of who is attending. I hope you will all be patient with our hard-working volunteers as they try to do their best to keep things up-to-date. However, due to various reasons, the information isn’t always available to the needed persons. Keep in mind that this is only our second BIG reunion, and we are still ironing out the kinks. The more of us who get involved, only helps to make things run smoothly. Myself, like everyone else, has a full & busy life, but since my involvement this year I find it is possible to add Yamato to my life! I agreed to take over as decorating coordinator reluctantly, and to my delight I have had the time of my life! I look forward to July 13th with much excitement. My brother, Anthony/Richard is also very involved with this reunion, and he has already expressed to me how much fun this has been for him too. We both plan to stay involved in the future, so our memories will stay alive. I hope more of you will join us!

Hi!! TWO WEEKS TO GO!!!!!!!!!Let's see some more early 60's Warriors on the list. Ron Childers and his wife Sue are comming. They sent in everything weeks ago but are not showing up on who's attending, but they will be there. Jim Herring and wife will also be there. Rick and Shanna will be there too, they are listed. For me this is getting to be a real happening in the desert. There are some people that won't be there and I will miss them, but with the people that are comming, we will have a blast!!!! L8R JIM '63

Reservation made, dues, registration, reception and dinner dance fee send. Only thing left for the reunion? What to wear? Wrote email to my email pal (or is it still considered pen pal) in Japan to let them know whats been going on including the reunion. Before I can go, things to do at the office. Sad how work keep on getting in the way of the FUN isn't it? I even have home work for the class thats comming up at the end of July. The nerve of them! Don't they know that home work is for during class and not before? I've got so many important things to worry about like what to take with me than home work! Anyway, I was in classmates.com">Email Me!!! and saw the familiar names and on the whim emailed Marsha Cook. She emailed me back with the news of the reunion. Just sqweeked in. Right now I am working at White Sands Missile Range as a Software Analyst for MLRS and Army TACMS weapon systems. If you remember on those documentaries about the beggining of space flight they show the Army Block House? It hasn't changed. I have to take out my year books. By the way, has anybody heard from Lynne Kawaguchi?

I've had a few folks ask about where to stay here so here are some sites to check out: www.lasvegas.com">Email Me!!! www.a1-discount-hotels.com">Email Me!!! The last one is pretty cool as it will pull up everything in town and give you options on searching price wise. You want to be sure that you check out the "map" as there are hotels/motels that are downtown (Old Vegas) and places not even anywhere near the Monte Carlo. There is a Holiday Inn next door and rates should be good. All you "wait til the last second folks", get off your butts and make your reservations!! See you all soon!

ok.... there better be a whole lot more folks going to the reunion than shows on the "Whos Going" web page. I mean really... that list wouldn't fill up a small room at the local Best Western! LOL I am looking forward to seeing ole friends (note I said ole, not OLD):o) As I have said earlier my mother, who was the school nurse at Yamato, might be joining me. She is 75 now and although she is in good health she might back out. She still remembers many of you from class of 69~72. Hope the list is updated soon so I can look up pics of those going. We will be having some kind of name tags won't we? LOL Everyone stay well. Marliss

Can you believe the reunion is only 20 days away? My stomach is starting to flutter and my blood is rushing! The minute the nose of our van enters Las Vegas; the transformation of Vonnie will begin. If you think you are going to meet the 57 year old me, you have another think coming. I will be, “Vonnie Hoops, Class of l960, Age l7!” I will wear “White Shoulders” cologne, which I wore all through high school, not the “Giorgio” I wear today, to set the mood! :-)
I pulled out more luggage a couple of days ago, and my husband, Dave, looked straight into my eyes and said, “I should be able to put everything I need for the weekend into one SMALL piece of luggage.” I knew this was a hint for me to follow his lead. I just looked straight back into his eyes and remained silent, but my mind was saying, “In your dreams, my darling!” :-) I am up to seven pieces right now. But keep in mind, that one is for my make-up, one is for my shoes, one is for our room at the Monte Carlo, which is filled with tea bags, coffee, paper plates, napkins, plastic utensils, etc. (This one goes with us on every trip), and two more are Yamato suitcases filled with Yamato stuff! Oh! I didn’t include the garment bag (a must for our dress-up clothes), or the boxes filled with decorating supplies! Or the large box which we will have to attach to the luggage carrier on the roof of our van. I bet you guys who might be reading this are glad you aren’t traveling with me. Ha!
Boy, this has been a year of all years for me, and I am very ready to cut loose! We are getting one house ready to sell and remodeling another. My husband and I are on totally different wavelengths at the moment. He talks remodeling.....I talk reunion! The only thing he will discuss about the reunion is what is he wearing, which is something right out of his closet! A fashion plate, he is not! :-)

Well it official, I can't make it to the reunion, duty calls. As a Department of Defense civilian, I am committed to many obligations that a civilian would otherwise demand and receive leave. My position as a DoD coordinator of support to Federal, state and local drug law enforcement agencies I stay very busy, primarily along the Southwest border. Recently, with the appointment of Secretary Rumsfield as the new SECDEF I have been involved in the restructuring of our support policies and procedures, not to mention budgeting for same. Suffice to say that the next 60 days will be very busy for me. Richard and Shanna Gilg will let everyone know how I'm doing as they will be there. Have a great time, drink a few beers for me and post lots of picture. Most of all please remember those that have passed and can only be with us in spirit. VR Larry

I just want to thank the Yamato Alumni for the finest year in high school. I transferred from Chofu HS where I was unceremoniously expelled for sharing my Christian faith with my classmates. This in spite of the fact that I always met my friends AFTER school hours and OFF of school grounds. Morever, I was appointed to see a psychiatrist for this grave plague called Christianity that some considered a mental illness. Eventually, I did succumb to depression and a breakdown.
After this, Yamato HS welcomed me with open arms - not only the students, but the faculty as well. And to my surprise, I discovered there was complete religious freedom at Yamato unlike the other school! Because of personal and emotional problems concerning relationships, I became depressed towards the end of the Fall 1971 semester. I went to the USAF Hospital at Tachikawa and sought help. Instead, the same doctor who despised my Christianity, first lied to me by saying they did "not have the facility to treat me." then during the middle of the night, I was stealthily taken and placed on a C-130 transport plane and exiled to America without a word to anybody. I was separated from everyone I knew and grew to love and respect.
Only recently have I been able to locate some of my old classmates after 30 years. I located 1 special friend after 28 years thru Overseas Brats. The others I'm just beginning to locate thru the Alumni. Thank you very, very much for I've missed them all these years.
Would appreciate if Cheryl Toyota, Melody Bandy, Kathy Urata, Florence Nakao, Susan/ Teri/Sheri Sutton, Tami Tanoue, Belinda Barnes and Gwen Vidinha and my friends from Chofu HS, and anyone else EMAIL ME if you remember me, and even if you don't! Thank you.

Ok, Yamatoites, guess who is coming to our reunion? Xavier Maruyama, Class of l962. Isn’t this fantastic! I had the pleasure of talking with his “significant other,” Edie, who will be joining him at the reunion. Edie is full of life, and had me laughing throughout the whole conversation. When she gave me her e-mail address that is when I discovered she is a pilot. I thought that was so……cool. She went on to brag about Xavier, and I asked her if I could share this information with all of you. She was happy tell me all about Xavier and said, “He would never tell you all of this, but I am so proud of him.” I am sure this attitude makes him even more charming and I am anxious to see him again.
Xavier has accomplished much in his life, which will be no surprise to all those who knew the Maruyama boys. They were all so smart, and even skipped grades in school. Xavier graduated from Notre Dame and then earned his PhD in Physics at MIT/MA. Today he is a Physics Professor at NPS, and in Edie’s words, “A true scientist!” Edie went on to say, “You will love him, he is a very down to earth guy.” Xavier is also an honorary member of the Scottish Clan “Sinclaire”, and is a member in very good standing of the Scottish Society of the Monterey Peninsula, where he and Edie met two years ago. Not bad for a “baby boy” born in Japan!
There were four boys and two girls in the Maruyama family. Robert the oldest, lives in Hawaii, Joe, Class of l960, lives in CA., and is retired, Paul, Class of 1961, lives in Co, and Xavier also lives in CA. Their sister, Marianne, Class of 1965, lives in Tokyo, Japan, and Roseanne, the youngest, lives in San Francisco and is an airline hostess for UAL.
I have had many people ask me about the Maruyama boys, so I speak for many when I say, “We are delighted that Joe and Xavier are attending this reunion.” Xavier has already attended both of his college reunions, but never his high school reunion. Thanks to Edie's encouragement, he is coming to his Yamato reunion.
Everyone, get your money to Paulette before the deadline (June 30th) hits! You can mail your money to her current address: Paulette (Peacher) Lathan, P.O. Box 7799, Reno, NV 89510. Don’t worry if your money was mailed to her previous address, it will be forwarded. Any questions, don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me.

There have been some changes on our web page that I would like to bring to your attention:
PURPLE BOX: When the main page opens up be sure to scroll down to the pretty purple box which directs you to the “Alumni Information Forms.” These forms are so important to fill out, because we must get our list of contacts current, which allows our volunteers to do a better job for all of us. Try not to click on the “send” button until you are ready, because it will move with or without information, and then it has to be deleted. This also goes for the guest book. Start writing in the guest book and this will get you use to using the other boxes. Besides we love hearing from all of you.
AOL & WEB USERS: Unfortunately, you cannot fill out the boxes if you have any of these two servers. But you can copy and paste them onto your e-mail and send them to our Webmaster, David Yoshida and Neil Alterman. You also will find their e-mail addresses in this box. If you do not know how to do this, let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.
SENIOR PICTURE PAGE: On the opening page, you will find each year listed with contains our senior class pictures. Our Webmaster has put the symbol # next to each person who has been found. (These are the people who have updated their information) So if you would like your friends to know you are alive and kicking, be sure to fill out the information forms.
LISBOT: (Yamato Alumni List) This is the orange box on the opening page. We sent out over 600 mailings and a very large amount have been returned because of wrong addresses. This means that these classmates have been found at one time, but we not longer know where they are. As of today, we have 188 people signed up, and I know there are more of us out there! Joining listbot is completely free and it allows our Webmaster to keep us up-to-date on our Yamato news. To keep this service up and running we must have enough interest. So, please sign up so we won’t lose this service. Any problems joining, let me know and I will gladly help you out.
SPLASH PAGE: Isn’t the new splash page terrific? There are 12 different pictures that will be used to keep it interesting. Not everyone has a high school web page, so lets get involved and support our site, by helping all of our volunteers to keep our contact list updated.

wazzup to all in warriorland. one month and counting. yee haw! it's time to let the excito-meter start creeping up a little each day. make sure you don't let it peak too soon. research hasn't found a cure for premature peaking, no matter what they say. thanks libby for the clothing update. now i won't be packing my full length leather overcoat, black woolen suit, and turtleneck cardigan. i guess it will be swim suit thong and lots of lotion to cover those cheeks since we will all be dying by the pool each day as the thermometer hits 100. and thank you for the entertainment update. however, i was wondering about that gentleman's club, OG's. do you have any info about this swank hangout for us debonair types. can't wait to break sweat with all of warriors who will be in attendance. remember- stay hydrated and may the force be with you.

For all of you that are dragging out all your clothes to try and figure out what to bring I thought I'd help make it a simple task. My suggestion for dressing for 100 to 105 degrees would be as little as possible. The temp at night does not go down too much so forget that cute little cardigan sweater that is a perfect match with your new skimpy outfit. My advice is to plan on spending lots of time at the pool and do some walking around in the late evening to see all the sites. The Mirage has the valcano, Treasure Island has a very cool battleship show, by the way all you gals, the guys in the show are pretty darn fine! The Bellagio has a beautiful, and very romantic, water show. For the guys, the cocktail servers at the pool can be quite charming in their "little" outfits. The last and best bit of advice I have is to be sure to bring mega UV protection sunscreen. Can't wait to see everyone again along with the new faces that have been found! We are going to have a great time and you will love the Monte Carlo! Adios and see you soon!

Ok, Class of l960, guess who is coming to our reunion? Paul Maruyama and his wife! Isn’t that fantastic? I got a call from Chip Harris the other evening, and he cannot make the reunion this time, but he sends a “Hello!” to everyone. I will bring you up-to-date on his life at the reunion. Helen Crawford asked me to tell everyone that she cannot make this reunion, but plans to attend one in the future.
Skip Barnes, Class of 1961, is trying to arrange his schedule and Perry Spalding, Class of 1962, will try to make the dinner/dance. I just saw his photo, and just wait till you see him! Dawna (Tolman) Holt, Class of 1970, and Velma (Epperson) Vander Miede, Class of 1969, called me on a 3-way line and they were so much fun, and they are very excited about the reunion. I have also had the pleasure of specking with Eileen (Smith) Buckingham, Class of l966 who is also attending. Cool name don’t you think? I have never met Ron Furukawa, Class of 1967, but he is funny, smart, and a pleasure to talk with, looks great in his photo and he is attending the reunion.
The questionnaires are still filtering in and many have stated that they will give me theirs at the reunion. When I started this project, I decided I would print a booklet, even if we only have 5 responses, so you can imagine my delight when I see so many taking the time out of their busy lives to fill out the memory sheet. My thanks to all of you.
I have had a lot of calls about the dress code, and may I remind you that there is no dress code. The bulk of the guests usually dress up a little more for the dinner/dance, but that is totally up to you. We want you happy and comfortable so you can dance the night away. If you checked out Steve Holland’s, Class of 1965 photo, you will see that he looks great in his outfit. Personally, I love the cowboy look!
As for me, my legs are getting stronger every day, and I am ready to rock! My wonderful committee volunteers, Cathi (Heming) La Bonte '71, Jim Short' 63, Elizabeth (Hamasaka) Tanabe '69, Richard Anthony Hoops/Jacobus '64 and Jeannie Hoops (my sister), are finishing up the final decorating project for the reunion. Let me tell you, this is some committee, whenever I asked for help on a project, they were right there to offer their time. You lucky ones who are attending will not be disappointed, the projects are outstanding. If you don’t believe me, come to the reunion and see for yourself. If you are single, keep your eyes open, because we have some great looking (single) Yamatoites attending! :-) If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.

Just found this great wedsite!! Some familiar names brought back lots of great memories. Attended 8th grade at Green Park, and Yamato until 1961 when we rotated back to the "States". I shared this site address with my brother Richard Pichette (Class of '62) so I hope he will respond as well. I live in Keizer, Oregon (suburb of Salem), and work for Bank of America in Portland. The 2001 reunion sounds great, but have already booked a trip to Kona, HI during that time......maybe the next one.

Do you remember seventh grade? As I was taking my daily bike ride in our neighborhood park, I was invaded by a mass of seventh graders celebrating the last day of school. I couldn’t help but reflect and I started to observe as I rode my laps around the park. They all began to pair off into their different groups. One group of girls walked across the lawn as one girl tripped and fell to the ground, which brought much laughter. The girl, who fell, laughed the hardest! Another group of three girls and one boy were throwing a ball back and forth. Several groups of girls were seated on the lawn areas under shade trees. Others went to the playground area, baseball diamond and the tennis courts. As I rode by, one group of girls waved & screamed “Hello” to me. Then that is when I saw him, “The boy who was sitting all alone.” As our eyes met, he quickly looked away and as I continued to ride by, I saw all the signs of the kid who didn’t fit in. He began to pace, went to the bathroom, stood by the teachers, combed the playground area, and finally ended up at the tennis courts. No one talked to him, no one noticed, except for one boy in a bright yellow shirt, the absolute only one who spoke to him. I couldn’t help but think, this boy who didn’t fit in, was doing a lot of listening & looking, he was absorbing and he was learning so much about people. I envisioned this boy growing up to become such a special and unique human being and then, “The world will notice!” I couldn’t help but think, if I were one of them (a seventh grader), I probably would have had a crush on the boy with the bright yellow shirt, because even though he was not as good-looking or built as well as the boy who didn’t fit in, he had heart!
This brought to mind the song “Don’t laugh at me” by Mark Wills. One verse goes like this: “Don’t laugh at me, don’t call me names, don’t get your pleasure from my pain. In God’s eyes were all the same, someday we’ll all have perfect wings.”

Sorry, I will not be able to make this reunion. Had I known earlier, it could have been a great possibility. I'll be in the Maryland/Washington area on the same dates to attend my family reunion.
It would have been great to see former warriors from the past and chit-chat awhile. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to attend the next one. My brother, Claude Hogue (1976) and my sister Annie (Jean) Hogue-Hadden (1970 or 1971)were disappointed when I told them about the reunion and where it was being held.
I hope to attend the next one--I will be checking the site for information.
Oh, yeah! Thanks to this site, I was able to hook-up with some former Yamato classmates.

Many people have been asking me about the dress code for the reunion. First, there is not dress code; we just want you to be comfortable. As I look over the photos from our last reunion, this is what I saw.
The guys in a suit or sports jackets were in the minority. Slacks and a dress shirt seemed to be the favorite, and one guy from the class of l973 wore shorts with a beautiful printed shirt and tennis shoes. Personally, I thought he looked adorable. My own husband refused to wear a tie or to wear a wild color. I was shopping one day, and called him to come down to the store I was in to check out some shirts. He took one look at what I had chosen and he said, “I will not wear any of these, and if you force me, you will go to this reunion alone!” I couldn't believe it, because I used every ounce of charm I could muster up to sway him, but he wouldn't budge. He knew how inportant this reunion was to me, and he used that to his full advantage. Sound familiar? Ha!
The majority of the gals (of course) dressed to the nines! Many wore nice slack outfits. Most dresses were in beautiful soft colors, except for a few daring ones, who wore red & teal. There were a few wild prints, which I loved, because I too have wild taste! Ha!
Please don’t worry about what to wear. Just dress in what expresses your personality and you can’t go wrong. Just be sure you are happy in your outfit so you can dance the night away! We have all grown up into well-adjusted adults who are not out to impress anyone but ourselves. (I think!) One thing for sure is everyone looked extremely happy in the photos from the l999 reunion, and it is clear that were are having “The time of their life!” So……….do yourself a favor and don't miss this reunion.

greetings warriors, old and young. had a mini get together tonite w/carolyn waldren, jerry dean, jeff burch and mike ripley. i think i can speak for all of us and say that we had a good time. was real nice to see carolyn and jerry. have not connected w/them since 1973. they have aged well, meaning hardly at all. last hooked up w/jeff at the napa reunion in 1982. he looks the same as well. i saw mike at the 1999 reunion, and hell, that seems like yesterday. i think we get the same vibes from mini get togethers as we do from the monster reunions such as vegas. it's just good to be around old friends. any other northern california alumni who want to get together, give me a holler. we are going to try to make this a regular event. at least a few times a year. hope you all are well. less than two months to get crazy again. wally

Well I am way behind on updating the information that you all have be so kind to be sending in. But have no fear I will get it done a little at a time. Been busy building a survey for our medical community here in Silver City. But that is winding down and pretty soon I will have a little more time. Between working and Cowboy Action Shooting not a lot of time for other things. So keep sending up-updated information please. Sure would like to get it all corrected for once and for all. So take care, see bunches of you in Vegas as we will be attending one of the functions, just don't know which one as of yet. Go Warriors, keep finding those that are lost and by the next reunion we will have hopefully accounted for most of those that attended YHS. Again thanks to all of you who have been so kind to send in updated information. Please sign up with the Yamato Alumni Association if you have not done so already. On a hard copy we have over 600 addresses but only 171 on the Alumni List. It's easy to get information to you if you are on the Alumni Roster. Thanks.

Ok, I messed up "big time here!" This didn't seem to take my whole message, maybe there is a limit? Hopefully, someone will save me and delete the repeats. If not, you have just met the REAL Vonnie! I will add the last paragraph to my write-up, if it doens't make it........I give up! I am tired and I am going to BED. Ha!
When I read Tim's response to the this question, it made me laugh. Through the years, I rarely mentioned my life as a brat, but now that the reunions have started, people who have know me for years are surprised when they find out I graduated in Japan. Personally, having to attend school on the outside (as I call it) for short periods of time between our moves, I became very aware of how lucky I was. Sure I was different from the other kids, but being different proved to be asset for me, and it made me feel so worldly! Because of this lifestyle, I learned to adjust to change, appreciate new places and to make new friends. I was better for this experience and till this day I find great excitement in seeing new places and meeting new people. They say there are negatives to being a military brat, but I disagree; I see this experience only as a positive. How about you, fellow brats?

I have been subscribing to the “Overseas Brats” magazine for several years now, and I recommend it to all of you. On April 8, 2001 they marked 15 years of service to our brat community. I just wanted to share with all of you something I read in the May 2001 issue, that I got a kick out of. Tim Varian Kaiserslautern, HS/Germany ’62, responded to a question he was asked and he speaks for all of us. Who but other brats fully understand and have shared the same experiences. With the permission of Joe Condrill, President & Publisher of Overseas Brats, I would like to quote Tim when he answered the question, “How do I respond when people ask: Where are you from?”
“I usually respond that I am a military brat and that I have been places and done things that they never even dreamed of or could even contemplate. I explain that I spent time in many different places and that HOME is where I’ll be spending the night – wherever that is. If I really don’t want to waste my time with that person, I’ll them I am from Austin, TEXAS, and leave it at that!”

On this, the most sacred for veterans, I am with Mike Smith and the others that gave their lives for us. Please remember them in your prayers, Mike may need a few more than Larry.
